    All great points. Something I would also note is that in today’s companies, there is a lot of communication that is not taking place through closed channels (such as phone or e-mail). Think about share portals, enterprise social media, shared workspaces. Here you have to not only think of who you are directly communicating with but also the others who have access to this information and tailor your communication accordingly. In our modern networked organizations, communication is complex and to be effective, you need to take a minute to understand the complexity.
